How Does Foam Pump Really Work?

There you are with greasy fingers after buffalo chicken wing night, and your hand soap dispenser is coming up empty. A real drag. Advancements in soap technology, specifically Foam Pump(KEXON), are making soap a more noticeable commodity, however.

Soap has evolved from its ubiquitous bar form to liquid and foam options. Liquid soap wasn’t marketed until the 1970s, and foaming soap has only recently become popular. Public restrooms and business restrooms around the world now rely almost exclusively on liquid soap options because of their relative cleanliness, sustainability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness.

So if liquid soap was such an improvement, why the need for Foam Pump, and how does foaming hand soap really work?

Foaming Hand Soap

Truth be told, Foam Pump is a form of liquid soap. It is derived from a diluted form of liquid soap that is infused with air to create a foamy lather as it leaves the dispenser. Specialized dispensers are required to use foaming hand soap properly. Some are designed for use without refilling, and others (permanent dispenser in public restrooms and businesses) are refilled regularly.

Some soap is kept in a pressurized container, and some is mixed with air in the dispensing unit when the pump is activated.

A pump-style dispenser has two chambers. One chamber holds soap and one pumps air into the dispensing unit when the pump is depressed. Pressurized dispensers are usually automatic and activated by placing hands directly underneath them. When the pump operates, the pressurized soap is released from its container in a measured amount. These types of dispensers aren’t refilled by adding more soap, but are refilled with a sealed packet or cartridge of pressurized soap.

Plastic Pump Design Three Types

For maximum service life, vertical Plastic Pump(KEXON) designs should be furnished with chemically inert sleeve bearings in the submerged area. Best results appear to be achieved with ultra-pure ceramic inner sleeves, and silicon carbide, reinforced Teflon, or Vanite outer bearings.

Various sealless pump designs are being selected in response to the tighter regulatory requirements, three types in particular.

The peristaltic pump group with fluid contact parts limited to non-metallics includes tube type and flexible liner type which trap the fluid temporarily between an elastomeric member and a thermoplastic housing. The latter type has been in industrial and municipal service since the 1950s. Fluid contact is limited to two parts: the thick thermoplastic body available in such materials as high molecular weight polyethylene, polypropylene and Teflon; and the liner furnished in pure rubber or an assortment of synthetics from neoprene to various Dupont elastomers like Nordel, Hypalon and Viton. The Flex-i-liner pump design makes liner changes easy to accommodate a variety of chemicals.

Diaphragm pumps isolate the pumped fluid so that there is only non-metallic contact. Carefully chosen for a specific application, and closely monitored, they provide good service, but have three drawbacks. First, they are noisy devices, being driven with compressed air, and indoor application can present problems for nearby workers. Second, diaphragm failure can lead to difficult-to-handle spills. If hazardous or toxic fluids are being pumped, this is a serious concern. Third, atmospheric oil emissions can be troublesome, but manufacturers are attacking this shortcoming.

Magnetically driven non-metallic centrifugal pumps have a number of attractive characteristics. In addition to being inherently sealless, they permit the use of devices for leakage monitoring, and avoid the emission of hazardous and toxic fumes. Polypropylene, PVDF and Teflon are commonly used in these designs. When severely corrosive, hazardous or toxic chemicals are present, Teflon appears to be the material of choice for the containment can in direct contact with the fluids, since it offers the broadest range of chemical resistance. One design approach has a dual containment system, with one can of Teflon for fluid contact, and a secondary can of a high strength thermoset composite. The non-metallic materials provide corrosion protection, and the design permits incorporation of leak and temperature monitoring devices if called for.

Filling Machines for Products That Foam Bottle

Foam Bottle(KEXON) from soaps to beverages, chemicals and cleaners, a wide range of liquid products have a tendency to create foam when unsettled by the filling process. Moving the liquid from the bulk tank or a holding tank, through the plumbing of a liquid filler and in to bottles tends to agitate the product, which can result in foam in the bottle or other container. Luckily, bottle fillers from KEXON can solve the foaming issue without sacrificing the efficiency, consistency or reliability of the packaging line.

The first solution comes in the form of a specific filling principle, the overflow principle. The overflow filler uses a special nozzle which dives into a bottle while also creating a seal on the bottle opening. As the nozzle dives, a port is opened to allow product to flow into the container. A second port on the nozzle allows product to then, as the name suggests, overflow out of the bottle and back into a holding tank. This type of fill, with the seal on the bottle, essentially pushes the foam out of the bottle, allowing foamy products to be filled to a level with each cycle.

Of course, not every packager wants to use an overflow filler, nor will the overflow filler work with every project. Some packagers prefer their liquid to be filled by volume, rather than to a level as done with the overflow filler. In addition, overflow fillers work more consistently and efficiently with thiin, free-flowing products. Thicker products or products that contain particulates may require a different filling principle. When a fill to level system simply will not work, but foam is still a concern, there are a couple of options to help control the foam on volumetric filling machines.

First, anti-foam nozzles can be used to control the foam during the fill cycle. In addition, a bottom up fill can be utilized to lessen the tendency of a product to foam as well. A bottom up fill will, like the overflow filler, allow nozzles to dive in to the containers. However, the dive will go deeper in to the bottle and no seal will be placed over the container opening. Instead, the nozzles will slowly ascend during the fill to help control splashing and agitation.

The Trigger Sprayers Features

The principle of a Trigger Sprayer(KEXON) pump is a small engine with a piston in a cylinder which pumps liquid through a dip tube in the cylinder and, using the pressure created by squeezing the handle, the liquid is forced through the nozzle base into the nozzle itself. The nozzle can emit a fine mist, a spray or a jet and, with a special insert, it can also emit foam.The trigger pump contains several injection moulded parts assembled on a special fully automatic assembly machine.

Pre-compression: The benefit of this type of function is that it gives the trigger a full spray without liquid fall off, or any large droplets of the liquid forming, because of a special valve inserted in the chamber of the trigger.

Why Recycle Plastic Caps & Lids

Plastic Cap & Lid Recycling Process

Assuming you left the cap on the bottle, the first step in the recycling process is to separate the bottles and caps into their individual resins. The material recovery facility (MRF) will use a pressurized system to expel caps and flatten bottles. Plastics are then soaked in water, where the bottle (made of #1 plastic) will sink and the cap (#2 or #5 plastic) will float.

Recyclers will shred the #2 or #5 plastic into flakes, which are washed, rinsed and dried. Flakes are then melted into pellets, which are transported to a manufacturer to make new plastic caps or other materials, such as casing for car batteries, storage containers or reusable plastic bags.

New Dry Powder Trigger Sprayer by KEXON

KEXON, as part of their extensive dispenser product range, has launched a new Dry Powder and Glitter Trigger Sprayer(KEXON).

As the name suggests, this innovative new dispensing product enables dry products to be sprayed much in the same way as a liquid or fragrance is currently sprayed using a traditional finger sprayer.

This creates new and exciting ways of dispensing a wide range of dry products that have been traditionally dispensed by shaking the product out of the container. This means that the product can now be more precisely directed to the desired point of application.

How Does Fine Mist Sprayer Work

Let’s look at a plastic Fine Mist Sprayer(KEXON) – common for personal care and cleaning products that deliver a fine mist spray when the consumer is dispensing the product. Remember, there are hundreds of unique designs that could require different components then what we are showing here, but this article will give you a general idea of what makes a Fine Mist Sprayer work and how it can turn a stream of liquid into a mist.

Commonly speaking, the spring compress as the actuator is pressed downward, drawing the product through the dip tube to the interior of the housing. Subsequent actuation pumps the liquid upward through the piston towards the actuator and exits out of the pump via the actuator insert. The components that make up the mechanism differ from design to design, but the sprayer pictured here consists of a piston, stem, spring, seal installed inside the housing, and the housing cap. This mechanism is then installed onto the closure and snapped together with the actuator to hold it in place. Some sprayer designs will have the metal spring located in a different position to create a metal free pathway.

The nozzle of the spray bottle concentrates the liquid into a stream by forcing it through a very small hole. Spray bottle nozzles also have a one-way valve in them that keeps air from flowing back into the pump and allows for suction within the pump so that liquid can be pulled up the tube. Without this valve, the pump would suck air back into the cylinder, instead of liquid up from the bottle.

Other Design Elements

Some nozzles have a built in screen with lots of tiny holes that make the liquid emerge as a mist, and some can screw down to lock the bottle and prevent fluid from escaping. The tube on some spray bottles also has a wider part at the bottom to allow for easier uptake of the fluid. Sometimes, this wider tube end has a screen over it so that solid matter doesn’t get sucked into the tube.
